These tests are more commonly known and referred to as SI tests. They are one and the same and were introduced in order to evaluate and check the validity of a partitioning structure separating two adjoining residential developments. The requirements for this testing apply to both new build constructions and refurbished developments.

Sadler Energy can usually carry out tests at your development within 5-10 days from the initial enquiry and the results are submitted to you in report format 5-7 days later, and come complete with individual data sheets. Multiple reports are issued to allow you to pass on copies to the relevant parties.

Our test procedures are carried out in accordance with current standards ISO 140-4:1998 'Field Measurement of Airborne Sound Insulation Between Rooms' and ISO 140-7:1998 'Field Measurement of Impact Sound Insulation of Floors.' The results are rated in accordance with ISO 717-1:1997 and ISO 717-2:1997. These results are then assessed generally in accordance with Building Regulations Document E 'Resistance to the Passage of Sound' in order to indicate compliance.

For purpose-built dwellings or dwellings formed by material change of use, the Building Regulations Approved Document E 2003 'Resistance to the Passage of Sound' requires separating structures to adhere to requirements of Table 1a of the above document.

Current Building Regulations require a minimum of 10% of the development to be tested. Sadler Energy can advise on the number of tests needed to satisfy the requirements of your building control officer.
