The latest news and case studies from Sadler Energy

The Energy Saving Trust estimates that over a quarter of UK Carbon Dioxide Emissions is as a result of energy used around the home. At Sadler Energy we work closely with our clients whilst undertaking our SAP Calculations to promote and optimise high levels of building insulation and air tightness. When producing the SAP Assessments we take into consideration the thermal qualities of the building elements as well as heating, ventilation and hot water.

Although clients can benefit from designing and building to Accredited Construction Details, further gains can also be made using Enhanced Construction Details, which have been developed by the Energy Saving Trust to help achieve reductions in heat losses for the dwelling. This can really benefit the development in achieving a good SAP rating.

Although it is good practice to look at insulating the major heat loss elements such as wall, floors and roof in order to reduce their thermal transmittance and U-Value, it is becoming best practice to also take into account of the Heat Loss from the junctions where two building elements join as such being extremely susceptible to air leakage. As the overall insulation of the dwelling improves as does the significant of these no-repeating bridges.

The Energy Saving Trust believe that, for a typical dwelling design to meet the latest building regulations, the heat loss from non-repeating thermal bridges should account for around 30% of the total heat loss from the building fabric. Therefore it is now very important to meet the requirements of Accredited Construction Details and if possible Enhanced Construction Details.

Our SAP Assessments take into account these non-repeating bridges and therefore influence the dwelling CO2 Emission Rates (DER), which is used to show Building Regulation Compliance and to help meet Code for Sustainable Homes.
