When looking to buy new electrical products, specifically white goods for the kitchen look out for the Energy Label on the product, to make sure you buy the most energy efficient products.

The more efficient the product, the less energy it needs to run. 'A' rated products are the most efficient and 'G' rated products are the least efficient. The most efficient fridges and freezers can now be identified by the rating 'A+' and 'A++'.

The Energy Label will also display the electricity usage of the appliance in Kilowatt hours (kWh). Those products that use less electricity will save you money and be better for the environment.

For washing machines, washer dryers and dishwashers there will also be a rating which takes into account the water consumption, again those with the higher 'A' rating will use less water and therefore save you money and are best for the environment.

Typically washing machines will use 30-100ltrs per wash programme, washer dryers use 60-200ltrs both based on a load capacity of 5kg. Dishwashers use 10-30ltrs per wash based on an 8 place setting and 10-50ltrs based on a 12 place setting.
